JOB SUMMARY:
Neurodiagnostic tech performs neuro procedures according to ASET practice guidelines and in compliance with Memorial’s infection control and patient care policies and procedures. The Neurodiagnostic Tech performs EEG testing on inpatient and outpatients. The tech is able to measure the patient’s head using the 10-20 system, verify surface electrode impedances are below 5 Ohms, note any skull defects, start recording and produce an artifact free tracing, identify and note any questionable EEG activity, perform stimulation processes and note any activity, trouble shoot equipment as needed to resolve recording issues, understand patient safety concerns and take appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of patients and staff. The tech will produce concise and well written report for Neurologist review. The Neurodiagnostic Tech will assist the Neurologist with EMG/NCS studies. Preparing the patient for the procedure, assisting with patient positioning and paperwork associated with the procedure. EMG/NCS are performed on inpatient and outpatients. The tech assures all charges for procedures are entered and reports are completed by the physicians in a timely manner.','!*!
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
High school graduate or equivalent (GED)
6 months experience working in a patient care environment
Computer knowledge, ASET modules completed preferred or EEG training preferred.
CAAHEP approved Neuro program a plus.
Experience:
Technician: 6 months experience in EEG or EMG/NCS preferred but not required. Previous patient care or hospital experience required. Must become ABRET credentialed in EEG within 4 years.
Technologist- Minimum 3 years experience in Electroencephalography or Neurodiagnostics Lab. Board eligibility with demonstrable competencies of a technologist, with at least three years documented, experience in Electroencephalography and/or NCS/EMG.
