General Information

The Inspector III is responsible for providing inspection of construction for new facilities and refurbishing or rebuilding of existing facilities to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications. We are looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented construction professional who can maintain accurate records of projects during construction phase to document compliance with contract terms.

This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt which means it is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of a 40-hour work week
Summary of Essential Responsibilities
Perform onsite inspection work:

Inspect materials, installation, and layout of work, and evaluate its acceptability
Determine and notify contractor of unacceptable material or work
Suspend work with Construction Manager's approval
Act as liaison between Construction Manager (CM), Port operations, tenant, Port safety, Port environmental, and contractor
Maintain thorough and accurate records:

Keep a daily diary for each job assigned
Verify quantities for contractor's monthly pay estimate
Keep as-built drawings current
Prepare force account documentation
Prepare inspection reports, and transmit submittals as directed by Construction Manager
Prepare and transmit inspection and progress reports to city, state, and federal agencies as required
Provide interdepartmental support:

Assist survey crew as requested
Review drawings and specifications of proposed projects for consistency with good construction practice, clarity, and internal consistency
Provide day-to-day work direction to inspector trainees and Inspector I, as directed
Prepare documents and information for arbitration/legal action as requested
Act as lead inspector on assigned large or specialized projects
Minimum Requirements/Skills and Abilities
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associate's degree in engineering, construction inspection, survey or related field is preferred;
or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience is required.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in multiple inspection disciplines which includes experience reading and interpreting drawings and specifications involving many technical disciplines is required.
Working knowledge of general construction practices and safety practices associated with construction.
Advanced knowledge of engineering, surveying, and construction terminology, and standard practices and procedures
Valid driver's license at time of hire is required.
Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) at time of hire is preferred or the ability to obtain within two (2) years of hire date.
Must be able to pass a criminal history records check for purposes of obtaining and maintaining eligibility for unescorted access to secure areas of Port facilities.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Full proficiency with current MS Office software, specifically
Word, Excel, and Outlook,
to effectively produce written documents
Proven ability to work in a multiplicity of concurrent activities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated willingness to promote safety as a guiding principle and a regular practice in accomplishing work; focuses on safety improvements and complies with safety and health policies and procedures
Proven team player who shows the utmost respect for others
Ability to:

Work with minimal supervision and make sound decisions in the absence of specific directions
Maintain good working relationships under adverse conditions
Demonstrate commitment to valuing differences among individuals and passion for being inclusive
Work outdoors in varying and adverse weather conditions
Work at heights and in confined spaces, and perform heavy lifting in the form of construction materials, test equipment, and occasionally manhole lids
Work overtime and/or shift work beyond regularly scheduled hours including evenings and weekends to support assigned projects
