About Our Job
The Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the City & County of Denver. DPL sees more than 4 million visitors every year across its 27 locations, serves Denver's most vulnerable communities through outreach and mobile services, hosts thousands of programs a year and manages a collection of more than 1.4 million physical and digital materials. The Rodolfo Corky Gonzales Branch Library is a very busy community library that provides services to the West Colfax neighborhood. We are located in a diverse West Colfax area near many schools, parks and businesses. We average 450 visitors per day including many children and families during after school hours with a very active Teen Advisory Board TAB. The successful candidate should have great customer service, great communication skills and ability
to work with people of all ages, diverse backgrounds in a singular point.
We are hiring two Library Assistant IIs to help create positive customer experiences where all are free to create, explore and connect at the Gonzales Branch Library. You should anticipate spending at least 80% of your time at customer facing service points. In order to provide the best possible customer experience, it will be crucial to stay current on library policy and procedures, especially those relating to library lending or circulation. In addition to knowing all things circulation, you will answer customer questions about using library resources and locating library materials. Interested candidates must demonstrate a commitment to developing and maintaining a welcoming environment for all customers. Daily responsibilities will include: registering customers for library cards, placing holds/ordering books, answering phones, checking in returned items, processing, sorting and shelving customer requests, collection maintenance and checking out and returning books and correctly handling financial transactions.
About You
Our ideal candidate has: Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of presenting and providing services to customers with varying levels of experience and knowledge.
Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information.
Skill in cash and credit card handling and making simple mathematical computations.
Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, databases, video conferencing, and other software.
Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact.
Ability to work closely with a team to complete daily, weekly and monthly tasks
Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
Ability to adapt to the ebb and flow of material intake and help out other assigned tasks at the library.
Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity with customers of all ages and backgrounds, coworkers and community.
Ability to multitask and prioritize.
Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.
Spanish language required for one position.
Second language fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese preferred for one position.
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements will be considered: A high school diploma or equivalent.
One year of customer service experience that included working on a computer.
Other things to know: City Employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination prior to starting employment.
The schedule will comprise five full working days, including rotating weekend shifts.
