There are a lot of people out there who would make excellent sales people, but they never give it an honest thought because they don't think that there is any decent money to be made in this particular customer service job. It really is too bad that they think this, because people who are good at what they do actually do make good money at it and can make a decent career out of it. Just to compare the average pay that retail sales can offer a person, this job can make more money for the employee than an esthetician, hair stylist, server, or bartender. Of course, in many businesses, successful sales people can make a good amount of money from commission as well.
This particular customer service job is certainly not the job for everyone, but it is probably a good choice for someone who is a smooth talker and who can easily persuade people to take a deal even if they don’t necessarily need it. For people who love to be around others, help customers find what they want and help them work out deals that can make the customer happy, sales is definitely something they should try. It is a field that offers a wide range of jobs from selling shoes to selling cars. Never mind the average because the amount of money that a person can make differs from job to job. The commission that is offered differs as well, depending on what it is you are selling and what business you are selling for. So, interest does come into besides the pay that a person can make. What products is the person more familiar with? What kind of things does this person think that they will be successful at selling? Knowing the product comes into it when the person is trying to sell the product to a customer who might only be browsing at the time. It is the test of the skills the person has that they can utilize in order to sell their quota for that day, week or month.
Besides the wage or salary that a person can earn, which is decent to start with, there is, as mentioned before, the commission that a sales person can often make off of each sale they make. So put that on top of what the person makes and there is already the opportunity to make a good deal of money. For those who stay with it and gain a few years of experience, they can be given the opportunity to take a position as a supervisor or a manager. This kind of promotion usually offers more pay than what they made before as a regular sales person. This customer service career offers the chance for a person to have a job they can enjoy and have the opportunity to make a good amount of money doing this job. Of course, it typically takes a person who enjoys doing this kind of work to be successful at it. Someone who really doesn’t have the enthusiasm or the interest in working in sales really doesn’t stand as much of a chance of benefiting from what sales has to offer.
