Front desk customer service representatives have a tough lot in life. They are the ones who have to deal with customers face to face, seeing them on a regular basis and they have none of the benefits a telephone customer service representative has, like hanging up on rude customers.

Front desk customer service representatives have to be the best kind of customer service representative. While they deal with great customers, many of whom are happy with the company’s product or service, they must also deal with those individuals who are irate, and while it may not be the customer service representatives fault, they are the front for the person’s frustration.

Typically, a salary in customer service jobs that are based out of a front desk are not always high, but they tend to be higher than telephone customer service jobs, usually with better benefits.

If you are thinking about a customer service job as a front desk customer representative, then it is important that you think about what you are getting into and everything that you will be dealing with.

If you are an outgoing, people person, than working at the front desk is going to be something you really enjoy. You will get to see new people everyday, talk to people and enjoy being the first person individuals see when they come into the building. That being said, you will also be the first person that meets the irritation of a dissatisfied customer. However, at the same time, you will also be the first person the irate customer thanks when you have solved their issue and assisted them in remedying the customer service problem they were experiencing.

Front desk customer service representatives, who are often called front desk clerks, are often labeled as secretaries as well, however this is far from the case. In fact, they are the first line of defence for the company against irate customers. That front desk clerk, who makes less than most of the people in the company, is the person who keeps customers happy and the person who becomes the face of the company when someone walks in that door.

It is no wonder it is one of the more difficult types of customer service jobs that one can get. However, for those who get the job, they will find it can be a rewarding experience when the job is done right and there is not an influx of individuals coming in to yell at them.

When in the role of a front desk customer service representative, it is important to always maintain a smile and calm demeanor. The company will be reflected in how you present yourself. Do not be rude with customers, but do not let them walk over you. Be strong, forceful and kind. Make sure that you have an air of confidence, and definitely ensure you have thick skin, you are going to need it.

After reading this, you may feel that you are in for a tough time as a front desk customer service representative, but the truth it you will most likely greatly enjoy the job and have a wonderful time with it.
