There is, of course, advancement as there usually is in these kinds of jobs. There is always a demand for technical support as more businesses are created all the time, so the demand is almost always there meaning there are always jobs available to apply for.

Some knowledge of computers and how they work is definitely beneficial, though it depends on the kind of technical support you are giving. This can be the best type of job for a student who is currently going to university for this type of thing, though it doesn’t necessarily have to be. In many cases, it is a good job for someone with experience with such things who would probably have the easiest time taking a job in this area, but then anyone is free to give it a try if they have an interest in helping people. It can be quite rewarding, especially being as so many people encounter technical problems they don’t know how to deal with every day.
